Word Work and Grammar Review Worksheets

Hey guys! Today I’m going to share how I use my Word Work and Grammar Practice Sheets in my first grade classroom!

These worksheets are perfect for reviewing grammar, vocabulary, and word work skills and strategies. Each worksheet includes six different sections that review different skills.

So…. How do I use these worksheets in my classroom??

In my first grade classroom I use one of the printable each week. By the end of the year, I end up covering all of the first grade grammar standards and a few second grade standards. We use slates to practice/review the skills before I let my students complete the worksheets independently. They complete this sheet each Thursday before they go to a center/station during guided reading groups. I use these sheets as an informal way to determine if my students have mastered a skill or if I need to pull a small group to reteach a skill.

Is there a scope and sequence?

I completely realize that my scope and sequence might be different than yours! However, the worksheets do get harder as they progress. All of the skills for each week are listed in the table of contents.

What happens if my students get to a box that includes a skill that we haven’t covered?

Well… that’s when I pull out the slates and do some quick teaching! If a few of them get it.. AWESOME! If they don’t.. no worries! You will cover the skill in the future. Also, the skills are repeated throughout. It will probably show up again in the future!

You can find the worksheets HERE.
