LOVE Glasses

Well, it’s snow day number….??? I am no longer counting!  My summer is shrinking but I will enjoy EVERY minute at home with my munchkins.  And, I have to say….It was really nice to get up before anyone and have my coffee in a quiet house. It was even nicer knowing that I could stay in my pajamas ALL. DAY!!
We have only gone to school two days this week but we have had A.LOT.OF.FUN!!!!!! It’s gone something like this….
Monday – SNOW DAY
Tuesday – My students saw these crafts sticking out of my bag.
They were ecstatic!! I think it was all about the GLITTER!!!! I explained that they would be writing stories about *magical* LOVE glasses and their little imaginations went wild!!!!   I had planned on completing this activity in the afternoon during our writing block, but my students were practically begging to get started!  And… when they beg to write, I. WILL. DELIVER!!!!! So, we started brainstorming right away!
First, I gave them the prompt {I walked into my classroom and saw LOVE glasses sitting on my desk.  I put them on and realized they were magic} I then had my students close their eyes and determine what their love glasses would do.  Their ideas made me laugh.out.loud…. {People were falling in love, Valentines were flooding the classroom, everything they looked at turned to candy hearts or chocolate, etc., etc…} After they determined what their  “love glasses” would do, they completed this writing organizer…
I had planned for this activity to take all week… but WOW…. My ENGAGED writers produced some great work… And, we were finished in two days!  And…they REALLY enjoyed using the glitter tub! Glitter is something that we don’t use often…

We finished our pieces on Wednesday… and now our bulletin board is ready for the month of *LOVE*.
This is the fourth year that I have done this craft and it hasn’t gotten old!  They seem to love writing about “LOVE.”  Ha. I think it’s the only time they can make someone fall in love with someone else and not get in trouble.  Some years I let my students pick their own topic, but this year I really wanted my students to work on staying focused!  The prompt seemed to keep them organized and focused on including steps to solve the problem.  If you are interested in this craft you can find it in my Valentine Extravaganza Unit here.

If you only want the craft, you can find it here.
So… Today is Thursday and this is what my day has looked like so far!!! HA.
Apparently my little Addie is ready for warm weather too! I caught her dancing on her desk {snow in the background} with three different bathing suits and her sisters shoes.  I just went with it and convinced her to put some sweat pants over her bathing suit!  I guess we will just keep dreaming!!!
And the big question… Will we go to school tomorrow?
