Penguins and Martin Luther King, Jr.

by Hollie Griffith

on January 18, 2014
This week we learned all about penguins!!! My kiddos had a blast and, of course, we still have a lot to learn and finish up next week!
My students love Tacky books this year!  This week we focused on character traits and Tacky is one FUN and ODD character!!
We also read a TON of informational books!
One of my guided reading groups read The Emperor’s Egg.  Another group is reading Eve of the Emperor Penguin by Mary Pope Osborne.
We completed a four square paragraph and then displayed our work with this quick and cute penguin craft!

This week we also learned all about Martin Luther King, Jr.  We read/watched a  PowerPoint presentation about the life of Mr. King.  We also read one of my favorite books… Martin’s Big Words!  Here are a few examples of our informational writing and craft.

My kiddos also had a blast completing penguin web quests! Yes… I forgot to take pictures!
So… next week we are going to continue our penguin study!  We will be making a glyph and analyzing our data in math.  We will also be researching different types of penguins with partners!
Here is a look at my Penguin and Martin Luther King, Jr. units that can be found at my TPT store if you are interested!
