First Day of FIRST GRADE!!

by Hollie Griffith

on August 15, 2013
Today was my first day of school and I’m exhaused!  I mean like… {had to get another coffee from McDonalds on the way home to get through the evening with my two little munchkins kind of tired!!} But… It was SO.MUCH.FUN!!! I really do LOVE the first week of school.  Nothing beats getting to know your kiddos and forming that classroom bond! I started off my day with this….

This was our morning work….
After morning work we talked about our classroom rules… I also told them a little about me! They got to share some things about themselves as well!? And of course… we had to stop for a DANCE BREAK! Oh how I love dancing with my first graders.  We will be writing our classroom rules and making cute glue bottle crafts {Stickin’ to the RULES} tomorrow!

We completed this prereading activity before reading First Day Jitters. My kiddos let me know that the “jitter sprinkles” I gave their parents at our parent meeting REALLY WORKED!!!

And then we read one of my favorite books…
And… of course we had to have some jitter juice to take those “jitters” away!!! {There are a lot of different recipes but I think Sprite & Hawaiian Punch is the easiest!!}

Then… It was time to learn about our new classmates! They had fun finding their friends and drawing their pictures!?

Of course, we had to read about Pete the Cat!!!?

I loved hearing what they thought about first graders!  We will be comparing first graders to kindergartners with a Venn diagram tomorrow!
After making an anchor chart they completed their own sheets!
I had more planned but that’s all we got to today!! By the time we had lunch, recess, specials, a few more dance breaks, and got our classroom money it was time to go home. I’m looking forward to tomorrow! You can find any of these activities in my Back to School unit by clicking here.  Now I’m off to join my kiddos in the bed! I’m not used to that alarm clock going of at 5:50!!!
